Belly Dancing Convention

This weekend Paul and I camped overnight at Dry Falls after seeing Jack Johnson in concert. The next day we woke up and did about a 3-mile hike around Dry Falls exploring the area. For those of you who don't know, Dry Falls is exactly what it sounds like - in their day they were waterfalls bigger than Niagara Falls and now they are a dried up rock. During our hike I made many comments like, "if I wanted to hang out on a dried out brown rock I would have stayed in Arizona." However, I was mostly just being a brat because there were some very pretty lakes scattered around and the scenery was definitely striking. Of course, I still can't post the pictures because I don't have my stupid cord!! After hiking for about two miles, our "trail" (I don't believe we were ever really on one) dumped us out into this random campsite in the middle of nowhere. There was a woman sitting there in a long hippie-ish skirt and an anklet with bells, smoking pot. Um....what??? We apologize for walking right through her tent area and head out of there. We start to hear music and pass a big classroom-type building with girls in sports bras and yoga pants dancing. Paul inquired of a large heavy-set woman in her 50's with a mustache about what was going on. "It's a belly-dancing convention. The young ones are having their turn now and then us more experienced dancers will show them a thing or two." (re-read my description of her above) It was basically an oasis of awesomeness (in my favorite disturbing way) in the middle of the desert. Paul asked if I could join the class and they said sure. Of course, my belly already dances on it's own so I took a pass.

Isn't a waterfall with no water, just called a "cliff"?

That's how I would describe it. Like skydiving without a parachute. Isn't that just falling?
