Unruly Mama

Well it's been too long since our last post. Last weekend I was in Sweatbox, USA (aka Mesa, Arizona) and Paul was having his "weekend of sports" here in Bellevue which consisted of a Bellevue High School football game, a game of soccer, a round of golf, frisbee, and whatever else.

On Monday, Paul and I started our labor and delivery class. It was a big class so you'd think those were some good odds that you'd have some real weirdos to make it interesting but that not the case. It was just a bunch of married couples like us and about our age. Maybe we should all go to the Gap afterwards.

Anyway, I was easily the worst behaved in the class because I kept getting the giggles during the relaxation exercises or the tips or the video. I'm sure that is a sign of my immaturity but oh well. I mostly controlled it. The very first class they showed a video of a large, unattractive woman giving birth. Surprisingly, Paul seemed relatively unfazed by it. We'll see how he does during the real thing.

At the end of the class, they turn off the lights and make you get down on the floor in all these "relaxation" positions. The teacher told people to close their eyes and they all did it!! I was looking around like, is this a yoga/meditation class or a labor and delivery class?? Between me trying to suppress my giggling, looking around at everyone actually buying this stuff, telling Paul the position was NOT comfortable and his shoulder/knee/whatever was too bony, and the baby breakdancing in my stomach I achieved very little "relaxation." Oh well, next week we talk about drugs - I'm hoping they have some free samples.

I'm sure Seattle's teachers aren't as granola as Portland's (but not by much), but here's an experiences at our childbirth education class.

I'm sorry you don't have any crazies in your class, they make the class much more fun to talk about after. And glad Aaron and I weren't the only ones not being relaxed and laughing during the yoga/meditation sessions.

I thought your posts were going to be illustrated?! Can't you snap a few pictures of all of this. I mean come on. If there aren't any weirdos, then I think it is up to you to fill the void! :D

yeah, our class was the same. as it turns out, the class (and whatever we learned) didn't help. had two c-sections...one with jared (as he was BIG = 10lbs) and one with the girls (yeah, an obvious c-section). i'm all for c-sections now ;) although, for some strange reason i kept having strangers ask me when i was pregnant with the girls "so, how are you gonna deliver/labor with quads?" yeah right :P

good luck with the rest of your class!

p.s. hope you loved our weather. and you didn't stop by to see life with a preschooler and quads?? ha!

I TOTALLY remember getting the giggles in our class....but you would be surprised at how you SO need someone to help you relax! Even though I swore I would remember all the "relax" during labor...yeah right. And it's not funny then...I promise :)
