Skagit Valley Green Stem Festival

Sonya has been out to visit me many times but has never made it to the Tulip Festival, so when she was here this month, we decided we would go. We loaded up Leah's stuff and headed up to the festival. First we participated in one of my favorite tulip festival events - the Kiwanis Club Salmon Barbecue. Then we headed out to see the flowers. Apparently this year, tulips aren't actually part of the tulip festival. None of them had bloomed! It was just fields of green stems! It was thoroughly depressing because as you locals know, the sight of the bright tulip fields as far as the eye can see is just breathtaking. We went to a couple of the "gardens" which had tulips but it was lame because even most of them weren't blooming! We took a picture with literally the only patch of fully bloomed tulips we encountered the whole day. Oh well, next trip, Sonya!
