On Sunday after church, we drove up to Bellingham to visit Paul's grandparents. They had not met Leah yet so we knew we needed to introduce them! Plus, it was a beautiful day for a drive. We drove up scenic Chuckanut Drive on the way there. It was gorgeous!!! The only thing that wasn't ideal was that I just kept saying "How many nuts could a chuckanut chuck if a chuckanut could chuck nuts?!" the whole time, and then cracking up. I think Paul was about to drive off the road.
We had a nice visit with the family and then Paul's grandfather took us to Squalicum Harbor on the Bellingham waterfront. There is a memorial there for fishermen lost at sea and Paul's grandfather made the sculpture! We walked around it and he told us all about the sculpture and the panels around it, which he created. It was a really amazing piece of art, I loved seeing it and hearing about it from him. As we were standing there people would come and go, looking at the memorial and I wanted to say, "Look, this guy right here made this!!" The memorial web site has all kinds of information about it including pictures of him making it. If you are ever in Bellingham, you should check it out. Another wonderful part of the sculpture is the setting; it's in a great park and right on the water - a perfect outing for a warm sunny day. Here's a picture from Sunday of Paul and Leah with Paul's grandfather, Dr. Eugene Fairbanks:

It's your blog stalker, checking in! We drove up Chuckanut Drive a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't stop saying the name, either. Ha ha! Now the name is rolling around in my head again. I can't believe Paul's Grandpa made that sculpture!
