We just got back from a four day trip to sunny San Diego and we all had a great time. Our excuse for going was that Paul was presenting at an ESRI conference going on there. ESRI makes nerdy map software (GIS) which Paul is an expert at using. Which reminds me, Paul did a rockin job on his presentation. Way to go honey!
Since Paul was going to be tied up with conference stuff Saturday and Sunday, my Mom and I hung out and had fun. Then she went home and Paul had a couple days to see some of the sights. It was nice always having an extra pair of hands to help with Leah! Here's a summary of what we did:
~ Toured the USS Midway, a Naval aircraft carrier. I can't believe people actually live on those things. The beds are smaller than Leah's and the planes take off from a runway shorter than the ones at NY Fashion Week.
~ Drove over the bridge to Coronado Island and checked out "The Del." I have to admit, I got a little freaked out driving over the bridge.
~ Went out to Point Loma to enjoy the views and see the old lighthouse
~ Ate delicious pizza at Filippi's in Little Italy
~ Walked around the Gaslamp Quarter and (of course) tried the local cupcakes from Heavenly Cupcakes. They were, in fact, heavenly. I was pleasantly surprised - these were some of the best I've had!
~ Spent the afternoon at La Jolla beach. Enjoyed the water and saw the sea lions.
~ Went for a drive up the coast along all the beaches
~ Visited Paul's uncle for dinner
~ Checked out Balboa park, the Botanical Building, the Japanese Friendship Garden, and more
~ Swam in the hotel pool
~ Had the most amazing breakfast of our lives at Hash House a go go. First of all, these plates were like a joke. They were twice the size of my head. I had the griddled french toast dipped in banana cinnamon cream w/ pecan maple syrup and Paul had the banana coconut pancakes with caramel syrup. I'm telling you... pure bliss.
We were sad for our vacation to end but we had a great time while it lasted. Leah was a champ the whole time and didn't seem to mind getting dragged all over San Diego. She also didn't mind when her sun-paranoid mother made her wear long sleeves, long pants and a huge sun hat in hot weather. Hopefully Paul makes presenting at this shindig an annual affair so I can have an excuse to go back next year!
