This Is Why I'm Hot!
This last week was some kind of insane freakish heat wave in the Northwest. Temperatures were above 100 in many places and got up to 108 here in Bellevue. That's right, 108 with no air conditioning. If you have never experienced that, it basically feels like your head is wedged up into the armpit of a 500-pound man doing hot yoga in an oven inside the Sahara Desert. I wanted to light my face on fire just to cool off. Instead I responded by buying 3287324783 fans and placing them in every corner of our condo. Even Leah got one that clipped onto her crib and pointed straight down at her. Despite all the fans, I still woke up every two hours to get new ice packs. The only way I could sleep was with ice packs on my neck, chest and back. Paul seemed relatively unfazed and commented that this was exactly what it was like when he lived in El Salvador for two years. You can imagine, these comments did not go over well. Neither did his remark that he "doesn't really like fans." The most exacerbating comments were from people who said, "Well, aren't you from Arizona?" In Arizona I slept in 70-something degree weather because I had air conditioning!! Only 15% of people in the Seattle area have A/C so it's a little different! Two of my nephews were visiting from Pennsylvania and I don't know if they'll ever come back. But in the end, we all survived (barely).

Now it is here. URGH!!
We feel your pain!
wow, that's crazy because we've been having the mildest weather I can remember for years. It has been in the 70's and low 80's and I have only used my AC once all summer and that's only because I had people over (but I know others use it more than I do).
Is it as bad as being on an airplane on the runway in Brazil with no AC?
I hated it! And Ethan was the same as Paul! He just kind of shrugged it off and we took turns sleeping on the couch because he can't sleep with the fan on. He can sleep JUST fine in our 90 degree apartment, but not with a little fan on. Go figure...
jon said the same thing....oh this is just like guatemala. he slept upstairs with no fan while the kids and i slept in the basement with three fans on us, and cold jars of ice on my back all night. thank heavens it is over!
EW that sounds aweful! It's funny but totally true that people from hot places (arizona, north carolina) can survive in the heat because every where you go has AC! Glad you made it.
