We celebrated Leah's first birthday on January 9th! It is so shocking to think it has already been one year! She is growing up fast!
Because of her age and the fact that she mostly has no idea what's going on, I was determined to keep the party low key. We have a small condo so we can't really accomodate a big party. So we decided to just invite the two Grandmas, my brother who lives nearby and my sister who was in town - humble beginnings to the extravaganza that ensued.
It was a special occasion so of course I had to turn to my go-to cake genius. I didn't even know what I wanted so I just told her to do something cute. I was (as usual) amazed and impressed with what we got. It was a pink and white two-tiered pink vanilla cake with a tiara on top and a wand. It was as darling as it was delicious.
I thought that one-year-old was a good time to start introducing Leah to some of the beauty tools that will be an integral part of her life going forward. So I brough out the sponge rollers. She didn't protest too much and I have to admit, I thought she looked super cute in just the rollers! Paul was a little shocked when he saw them. He has no idea what he is in for these next 17 years. Her hair came out great - so cute and curly! I was a little sad though because I thought it made her look so old!
She had a cute little dress that said "Birthday Girl" with lots of tulle and a diamond tiara. She got tons of awesome presents that she loved but they all had a hard time competing with her main party favorite - the balloons.
I did have a hard time resisting all the "1st Birthday" decorations at the party store, especially the confetti that said "Leah" on it. So in the end, we had quite a little party and everyone had a great time.
Now Leah is one year old and here are some of her favorite things:
- Walking all over (often like a drunken sailor)
- Walking too fast for her mother's taste
- Growing teeth (yes! the top two have broken through)
- Playing at the mall playground
- Being pushed in the swings at the park
- Drinking regular milk out of a sippy cup
- Climbing onto the end tables and derailing all her Mom's baby-proofing
- Opening the gate which is also supposed to be baby-proof
- Reading books (you can tell her which one to bring and she will find it and bring it over)
- Playing peek-a-boo in her playhut
- Being chased by her Daddy
- Yelling/talking
She is a big girl now! Happy Birthday Leah!!
