On Friday evening, Paul and I headed across the mountains to Wenatchee. Paul and some of his brothers were participating in the annual Ridge to River race there. The race consists of cross-country skiing (Paul), downhill skiing/boarding (Sam), running (David), cycling (Danny), and kayaking (Sam). Paul got up bright and early to go get the team registered and ready to go and realized that he had brought all his gear and clothing except for a shirt to ski in. Luckily Danny had one he could wear but he was the only person in the starting zone in North Face pants and a spicy red button up (which he wore to our salsa class the night before) - nice!
We hadn't really done ALL the planning in advance that we should have and were just getting to the boat launch with the kayak when we heard them announcing that our rider was "entering the exchange area." Paul and Sam had to RUN with the kayak to meet Danny who was just standing there going "Where is everyone?!?" The guys all did okay and beat their time from last year. And Paul did not get passed up by an overweight elderly lady this year so, really, they were all winners!
After the race, Paul and I went back to the hotel where he showered and we went to meet everyone at the park for the after-race festivities. We had been planning to maybe stop somewhere for dinner on the way home so again, all Paul had to wear was a nice button-up shirt. Everyone at the park (including his brothers) would be still in their racing gear and he was freaking out. So he actually ran into the Salvation Army store next to our hotel and bought an ugly yellow tee shirt for $1.79, which he happily wore to the park for five minutes until they got their race tee shirts.
Congratulations guys on a fun and good-natured race!!

You guys are awesome! Such power all in one family! I heard that Danny was the one in the best shape. Go Danny! I think Paul looked really buff. Did you see those biceps? Wow! It sounded like a lot of fun and some good laughs!
