Two Years of Wedded Bliss

While we were visiting my sister, she kindly offered to take care of Leah so we could go into D.C. overnight to celebrate our second anniversary. We took the train into the city and then checked into the Hotel George, a trendy little hotel about a block from Union Station - super convenient.

We spent the afternoon on the campus of the George Washington University, where I did my undergrad. I showed Paul all of my old stomping grounds and told Paul lots of stories of college and of course, left a few out. There is a bust of George Washington on campus that I took a picture next to when I started there as a freshman. About 11 years later when I met Paul I found out the statue was done by his great grandfather, Avard Fairbanks.

That night we had an amazing steak dinner at the District Chophouse and then walked around the monuments. They are beautiful at night and were always a great, free place to go on dates in colege. It worked just as well on Paul as it did then. ;)

The next day we had a lazy room service breakfast and then took a tour of the Capitol. As you may know, every state has two statues in the Capitol. We saw both from the state of Washington and guess what? One of them was of Marcus Whitman, sculpted by none other than Avard Fairbanks! (Turns out he has two others there.)

It was a fun getaway for our anniversary! Sometimes I'm amazed we have only been married two years since it seems like we have been a family for a long time. Here's a pic from the day it all started two years ago - the best day of my life!
