Camping Fail

A few months ago we went camping.
I feel like I could really just stop there and you would understand the title of this post. Two adults, one toddler, one infant, one tent, one night. I mean, come on. What was I thinking? I was thinking that all Leah ever wants to do is run, climb, get messy, and explore. Camping is one of the few times she is almost completely free to do all that stuff. So I took one for the team and agreed to go camping. We went with a big group so everything was planned for us which was nice.

It was the longest night of my life. Actually, everyone else slept really great. After finally falling asleep, Leah stayed asleep all night and the baby only woke up at his normal time to eat and went back to sleep. Leah wouldn't stay in her sleeping bag and it was pretty cold at night so every time she rolled over, I had to fix her blanket to cover her again. Basically I was woken up at approximately 45 minute intervals by the following realities of married/family life: the baby needing to be fed, Leah needing to be covered and/or her foot in my face, someone using a chainsaw near our tent (which I finally realized was snoring), and my crappy deflated sleeping pad. But I was right that Leah loved running around and playing in the dirt and exploring, which was pretty cute so maybe it wasn't a total fail. I'd be willing to try it again...in about five years.

Also, Paul told me that putting a flower in Leah's hair was not appropriate for camping. Judging from the other kids, he may have been right, but it was (and always is) worth the struggle in my opinion.

Just the way I like you....diet coke in your right hand....Go girl!!! I am still afraid to go camping here in the south. The humidity is killer and don't even get me started about the bugs,...
