Today I would like to tell you about my 22 minutes. Every morning, Paul gets ready and goes to work about 8:15 am. I don't go to work until 11:00 am which is nice because I can spend most of the morning with my kids. We eat breakfast, play, read books, but mostly just lounge around in our pajamas. However, at some point, we have to get a few things done and that is when I turn to my assistant, Dora. She is able to literally hipnotize Leah for 22 minutes. I don't like letting Leah watch very much TV so I am always in a rush to get everything done in these 22 minutes.
This includes:
1. Change Andrew's diaper (I don't remember feeding him that)
2. Get Leah's clothes for the day out of the kids' room so I can put Andrew down (so convenient to have them in the same room)
3. Hold Andrew, cuddle, and sing some songs/lullabies to him in his room (see how calm life is andrew? bwahahahahahahaha!)
4. Put Andrew down for his morning nap (PLEASE lay down, I only have 13 minutes left!)
5. Get dressed for work (how do I choose, everything looks AMAZING)
6. Do my hair (this isn't working, why is it standing up like that? what?? I only have 6 minutes left? Ponytail!)
7. Do my makeup (my adult acne makes me feel youthful!)
8. Brush my teeth (the sound of the Sonicare snaps Leah out of her hypnotic state..."what's that? where mommy? where baby? my brush teeth! MY BRUSH TEETH" oh no! get back on the couch, here's your toothbrush!)
9. Straighten up the bathroom so our nanny doesn't know how we really live (totally working)
10. Unload dishwas....crap, forgot to turn it on last night. Cram breakfast dishes into full dishwasher, turn it on. ("We did it" song comes on - I only have a minute left!)
11. Find laptop, badge, keys, etc... ("MORE DORA!!!! MORE DORA!!!!! MORE DORA!!!!" All done Dora! Let's pick out a book!)
If everything has gone as planned, I'm all done and can play with Leah until the nanny arrives. If I could be as productive throughout the day as I am in those 22 minutes, I think I would be a white Oprah. Until then, I will just cling to my 22 minutes.
